I can preach true health and anti-diet-culture messages all day, buttttt…if someone wants to lose weight, they’re going to do it anyway, by any means they find.
Check out the link below for a cringy tiktok of me showing what NOT to do to lose weight (ever)!
Regardless of your goals, eating balanced meals will BENEFIT YOU (refer to my post discussing the balanced plate).
If you consume many refined grains and processed convenience foods that happen to be higher in saturated fats, salt, sugar, and calories, you may feel you are gaining weight.
This weight gain is not from the food itself, but rather the foods inability to sustain you. Like I mentioned in my recent YouTube and IGTV, whole grains help to keep us fuller longer…so guess what refined grains do? The opposite. https://youtu.be/GI-SH7eYSmU
When you live by a diet that lacks whole grains, fruits/vegetables, and lean proteins, you end up eating “X amount” of calories, but instead of feeling satisfied for a few *hours*, you’re satisfied for *30 minutes*…and then, you need to eat again.
The foods themselves are not to blame, it’s the simple fact that they cannot hold you over for long enough, resulting in you feeling hungry sooner, eating more frequently, and then consuming more calories throughout your day. *gasp*
Don’t get mad at your BODY for being hungry 30 minutes after eating a bowl of cereal…your body’s JOB is to break down the foods you consume. If you are consuming simple, refined foods—they will be digested more rapidly.
This is why I emphasize fiber. It is not easily digested and moves through our body more slowly, resulting in us feeling fuller longer.
where can we find fiber…?
…fruits…vegetables…whole grains…legumes…and many plant based proteins. Yup.
See why the balanced plate is important?
So, if you are looking to lose weight, please don’t fall into the trap of buying expensive juices, detoxes, diet programs, or weight loss supplements.
Simply fuel your body with the nutrients it needs, don’t be afraid of desserts every now and then, and learn to *listen to your body.* if you’re hungry again, maybe your last meal wasn’t filling enough and that’s OKAY.
